@vijfhoek yeah that's the problem, rar is explicitly designed for rent seeking by the winrar guy
I don't really care about creating rar files because there are other perfectly fine archive formats (zip is almost always the correct choice anyway)
but there is no complete free software decoder for it and unfortunately that makes them all unusable to extract a lot of files floating around online; you *have* to use unrar which is only source-available and prohibits reverse-engineering in the license (even 7-zip uses unrar as a library)
so it would be nice if people stopped creating more rar files and legitimizing this bullshit -

@lanodan @faoluin @volpeon I'd say the problem is creators are unable to meaningfully unionize, and individually they can't leave because it'd be too much lost revenue from the majority of viewers being unwilling to follow them elsewhere
best we'll get is platforms like nebula and floatplane being treated as secondary, but honestly both are still kinda fishy -
