@theauracle That's really interesting. I don't have anything to contribute. It's just really interesting.

kevin3kon (kevin3kon@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 15-Nov-2023 07:54:00 JST kevin3kon @ryanhoulihan Very okay! Fighting genocide is great! That means:
A. Getting supporters of 1, in-office, to stop.
B. Keeping those who support that 1 genocide, plus 3 more, out of office.
C. Organize anti-genocide movements.
I worry your message was doing A at the expense of B. We can multitask; all three are possible. That includes advocating for voting against 4 genocides, even if it feels like it's voting for 1; it's not. It's voting against 4.
We disagree, but not about genocide.

kevin3kon (kevin3kon@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 15-Nov-2023 07:01:25 JST kevin3kon @ryanhoulihan Okay, maybe in some roundabout way your message to politicians will be ingested into a poll or voter data somehow, but that's not your primary influence. You said it yourself, your voice matters primarily to consumers, meaning people, voters. What effect do you want to have on them?
I have not been hostile to you. I don't know why you called me a capitalist, which is an insult IMO. I am trying to discuss how/if we disagree. And I don't get paid. Who's the capitalist again?

kevin3kon (kevin3kon@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 15-Nov-2023 06:34:23 JST kevin3kon @ryanhoulihan But nobody in current national government positions is reading our messages here, so it doesn't matter what we're trying to say to them.
Who is reading our messages here is potential voters, so what we're saying here has an effect on them if it has an effect on anybody.
What effect do you want your original message ("if you want me to vote, give me something to vote for") to have on potential voters?

kevin3kon (kevin3kon@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 15-Nov-2023 04:15:26 JST kevin3kon @ryanhoulihan Okay, that's valid. My question is what do you want the effect of your message to be?
Is it that you want people to stop telling you who to vote for?
Is it that you want people to stop telling you who to vote against?
Is it that you want everyone to change their metric of who they vote for to "who deserves my vote" rather than "who do I vote for?"
Because regardless of the intent of your message, I worry that the effect will be the third. I feel that is dangerous. My opinion.

kevin3kon (kevin3kon@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 15-Nov-2023 02:47:43 JST kevin3kon @ryanhoulihan That isn't how I meant it. The reason I referenced them is because they've only just started their lives, and for that reason alone they have more at stake. People our age have lived a chunk of adulthood already. Trans kids' entire adulthood is at risk.
I did not mean to offend or condescend. I'm sorry that I did.
