Hot take for some deliberation..
If #FreeSoftware folks were like miners. Dilligently "working in public" digging up the raw and valuable materials from the rich soils of Progress mountain. Not for their monetary value, mind you. But to provide Tools & Sustenance for Mankind.
Then why are they leaving the fruits of their labour out in the fields at night? For the Robber Barons to steal their pick of Gemstones. To be turned into jewelry ? which they call Wealth.
Leaving #FOSS hungry and weak.

We give away our creative ideas and Innovation *before* it is licensed and long before we turn it into something concrete.
