The Swiss/ German tradition of Fasnacht is so weird, and so apparently unknown outside this culture. Photos never quite do justice to the spectacle of a carnival parade in a tiny village, on a February afternoon when there's rain in the wind. There's vaguely a theme, but the floats are largely incomprehensible (the smoke is coming from one that is burning Christmas trees on the platform). They are very cheerful and handing out sweets and alcohol while the children throw confetti at them.
