@tokyo_0@mas.toBlueSky is centralized so what does "the bridge doesn't work unless BlueSky is federated" mean?It is centralized at the moment. If BS turns on its federation as it promised earlier via its own AT Protocol then that's when the bridge will launch. Otherwise if it's all lies and it's just going to be yet another walled garden like Twitter is, then the bridge will never be launched.
to “quarantine” themselves away from eris by disconnecting from any subset of the IRC network as soon as they saw eris thereWait isn't that like how #fediblock acts when they see someone interacting with @eris@akko.disqordia.space :kokoro_lmao:
Imagine not only confusing #ActivityPub with the #fediverse, but also get corrected in a reply (which I'm quoting right now, thank god for #quoteposts because otherwise I'd be subposting) by the person you're trying to support.
No #MastoAdmin / #FediAdmin should be allowing #Tor IPs to signup if they're doing open registrations in their #fediverse instance anyway. That's just inviting trouble.
If #Wikipedia blocks them, you probably should too. :seija_coffee:
I never said anything about preventing #Tor users from accessing Mastodon. Not even logging-in to their account (so they can sign-up from a "clearnet" IP and then login via Tor afterwards, just like how it's done in #liberachat#IRC). All I'm saying is, if your instance has open registrations without any form of manual vetting or approval before activating the account, then you should prevent #Tor users from just being able to register an account in your instance so your instance isn't just an easy target for spammers to use.
And yes, block the #VPN users too from registering an account. That's what #Misskey's flagship instance at misskey.io already do to prevent non-Japanese users from creating an account there.
@subtype@insufferable.tools The spam seems to be targetting users who have interacted with the big #Misskey servers like misskey.io I heard. :sagume_think:
Open registrations and its consequences to the #fediverse :reimu_sigh:
Please, if you're a #MastoAdmin / #FediAdmin, don't make your registrations open if you don't have the moderation capacity to defend against potential spam attacks... I am even seeing #Misskey servers not asking for a #CAPTCHA in signup! What the fuck man. :reimu_sigh: And I bet those new #Mastodon servers don't have protective measures either...
I mean I just told people in that #GitHub thread to stop with the threats of suing/litigating against the #bridgyfed developer and the #FLOSS/#FOSS project and I got instantly dunked on. The initiator of the issue got dramatic, despite them not really giving out legal threats to the dev (like why did you feel hurt by that generalistic statement? :SanaeConfuzzled:) I guess it's easy for the #fediverse to just not care how such a litigious attitude can be damaging. I mean, who would want to work in such an environment knowing that people around you want you jailed? :reimu_sigh:
We're fucking lucky that the developer gave us a heads up, an approximate timeframe (where the launch is at least a month away), and was mature in their responses. And even more lucky that despite all those legal threats and mudslinging the dev still continued engaging respectfully with the criticisms and offered an opt-in method that people I knew were vocal against the bridge's opt-out, accepted. Seriously, @snarfed.org@fed.brid.gy deserves some credit for keeping up a cool head and rest from all of that mess.
Yet most of those vocal detractors couldn't just resist acting like immature people throwing out #GDPR and comparing the dev to rapists in an effort to scare them out of fedi. One of the #ActivityPub authors/founders even had to show up in the thread to clarify how those detractors got their understanding of how the fediverse works wrong. :ablobcateyeroll:
Anyway if your #fediverse instance has already blocked the brid.gy root domain I suggest bugging your #MastoAdmin / #FediAdmin to change that to only block atproto.brid.gy (and maybe bsky.brid.gy as well, though I'm getting conflicting info on which subdomain is going to be used) and nostr.brid.gy.
web.brid.gy which actually works right now is perfectly fine, and you're just doing a disservice to your users who would want to interact with the #indieweb. :seija_coffee:
@tchambers@indieweb.social#Misskey for example also has #fulltextsearch already for every #fediverse post that it saw, so unless their #Mastodon instance decides to switch to allowlist federation and block every Misskey and other fediverse instances that ignores the proprietary "consent setting" for full-text search, their expectation of "#privacy" (if you can even call it that considering #ActivityPub's design) has been broken long ago.
The hammer and sickle worked hand-in-hand with the American guerillas to kick out the Japanese invaders out of my country and I suspect my great-grandma may have been a Huk
Of course, it's not something you privileged Americans who take their liberty for granted will ever understand when they just casually say that the Nazis, who were allies with the Japanese are better than the communist guerillas in Asia :seija_coffee:
