I know @kathimmel and @ophiocephalic expressed some interest in maybe helping develop The Intersection - I wonder if we can find anyone else? I set up a Signal group, just have to pick when to invite folks to it to form a small group to throw around ideas!
It took me about twenty years of research and about two years to put that together, and a anti-authoritarian radical media network of local sites based on the French Mutu model - that I'm calling "The Intersection" - is something I've constantly come back to as the ideal, robust media we need: no commercial interests, no ads, no algorithms, no clout-chasing, no hierarchy; just bulletins about actions, events, and ideas relevant to your locality. Let's build it. Let me know if you're interested.
A lot of people are still baffled by the fact substantial anticapitalist change hasn't come about, despite the rise of "alternative" media. What we rarely acknowledge is the reality of the dire landscape: state media, corporate media, clout-chasers, commercial initiatives competing in the marketplace, and disparate silos where everyone's "alternative" media is the one that will change things if just more people would consume it. But this is all wrong: https://www.mediaactivist.com/manifesto/
The media have normalised and even promoted fascists - not only in the US, but also here in the UK, with Nigel Farage and Nick Griffin before him - all while reinforcing a narrative of a "democracy" which doesn't exist. Fascism should be called what it is, called out, and stamped out, wherever it exists. And we should never forget that these false democracies are enablers of fascism.
Speaking of pro wrestling, I see Mark "Undertaker" Callaway having as his podcast not only Glenn "Kane" Jacobs but also Donald Trump (a man arguably trained in outrageous hyperbolic speeches through his WWE appearances) -- and wrestling reporters are covering it under the pretences of "democratic process" and the choice of voting being "the most important thing." It's shoddy, yes, but also so dangerous.
Of course, there is a third option: completely reject these shitty choices, delegitimise them by refusing to take part in any way, actively undermine them in solidarity with one another, protect each other, and contribute towards creating a world where we ourselves decide how our communities operate. Because choosing our masters will never make us free.
State electoral politics: "This party will beat up a dozen people you care about, whereas that party will beat up only half a dozen people you care about. How dare you not value the democratic choice we have given you, and how dare you not even vote when that means we're now going to beat the shit out of a dozen people you care about. The blood is on your hands!"
Here's a random one for you: despite its disproportionately high popularity and impact on the web in the mid to late nineties, there seems to be very little documentation on the development of professional wrestling websites at that time. I've been researching this, and have found hardly any historical coverage of that phenomenon. (The old WCW and WWF websites for example, even in their crude form in their infancy, were incredibly popular for those early days of the web - yet little documentation of that seems to exist) #AskFedi#AskMastodon#ProWrestling#wrestling#WorldWideWeb#InternetHistory#InternetArchive
