All really great points. I think it’s also important to consider that for some people - mastodon is just NOT going to be their cup of tea. Being a software dev - mastodon is VERY appealing to me. But I also must concede that no amount of explaining will convince certain friends and colleagues to leave their comfy and “easy” social spaces for the off the map “here there be dragons” of Mastodon. -

Honestly a great analogy! A lot of future technology and platforms are likely to be open source and decentralized. As more users begin to enter these types of platforms and become adept - friction should hopefully decrease.
