Anime Wong (elliptica@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:45:15 JST Anime Wong @Twoinchdestroya @GhostTown @Zealist I tried that last year. One problem is that the sun is overhead at noon, there is little shade to be had for most of the day. I grew sunflowers and corn to block the sun. but t ended up blocking the sun for the entire day for only a small part of the garden, and it also robbed the soil of nutrients killing anything else that grew there. -

Anime Wong (elliptica@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:09:57 JST Anime Wong @Zealist @Twoinchdestroya I'm doing nearly the same. Squash, corn, zuccini, pumpkins, peppers(thai/bird, new mexico chili, jalapeno, sweet, bell), strawberries, tomatoes (Beefsteak and cherry), peas, green beans, two varieties of lettuce, carrots, several types of short and mid day onions, garlic, mint, rosemary, dill, and thyme. Also, several types of flowers, but they're nothing really new. -

Anime Wong (elliptica@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 16-Jun-2023 23:11:49 JST Anime Wong @Twoinchdestroya @xuya Well, I don’t really know anything about them being demons, but I think when it comes to aliens (Intelligent life beyond humanity from other planets) there are only two conclusions to draw:
1)Alien do not exist and we are alone in the universe
2)They do exist and are already on Earth
Let’s start out with what we know. The universe is around 14 billion years old, and the earliest point when all the materials for life to form was around 12 billion years ago (formation of pop II stars). If we use Earth as an analogue, it took 4 billion years for life to first appear and .5 billion years for intelligent life to appear. That would mean that the oldest intelligent civilizations are around 8 billion years old.
Human civilization is around 10k years old (maybe around 200k~100k, which is when earliest signs of humans appeared), and in this time we went from banging rocks to where we are now. Imagine the technological leap we could have in 8 billion years. Yet we don’t really see any definite signs of alien life anywhere in the universe. The closest we’ve seen are FRBs (Fast Radio Bursts), and they are most probably not aliens.
So probably this means that there’s something holding back aliens from leaving their home planets and conquering the universe. Usually this gets called something like 'the great filter'.
Something else to consider are the chances of life “randomly” becoming intelligent at all. We’ve seen many cases of nearly intelligent animals. Birds are remarkably intelligent for their brain capacity, so dinosaurs should have been even more intelligent, yet as far as we know there are no signs of a "Dinotopia". Whales are incredibly intelligent, as are octopus and squid. Spiders (especially jumping spiders) are equally smart, exhibiting behaviors that we don’t even see in some larger mammals, and have almost everything going for them to make a civilization if they ever become intelligent enough. Basically, there's no reason for it to take half a billion years for intelligent life to appear on Earth once life appears, but it did. This implies that the chances of intelligent life occurring at all is incredibly tiny.
On the other hand, let’s assume that we’ve missed all the signs of intelligent life. If life were to gain the ability to travel the stars, assuming they found ways to travel faster than light, it’s reasonable to assume that they will have visited most every place in the universe, in the same way that Europeans explored almost the entire planet relatively quickly once they developed proper navigation and sailing techniques. If that’s the case, then they are already on Earth, and would have been for quite some time.
The idea of them being demons probably steams from the question of whether they are Christian. But if that’s the case, then most of humanity are demons since they had not heard of Christ until 1000~1500 years after he died. I don’t think aliens are demons because of that alone. On the other hand, if the only intelligent life in the universe is on Earth, created in the image of God, then any intelligent life we do encounter aside from humans might be "demons".
And so concludes my effort post for the month. -
