United States: we'll impose sanctions on a single, very specific IDF unit for egregious human rights violations
Every Israeli politician: this unit is no different from the rest of the IDF

We cannot talk about Passover, a holiday celebrating Jewish liberation, without talking about the extreme violence and dispossession carried out against Palestinians at this very time in the name of the Jewish people.
I’ve translated below the words of Simon Assoun, who organizes with me as part of Tsedek!, a collective of decolonial Jews in France. Simon’s words exactly convey my feelings at this time.

Famine in Gaza, pogroms in the West Bank, land grabs in East Jerusalem. These aren't separate developments disconnected from each other.
The @torproject just published an insightful report on how Israel's defense and surveillance industry, which is marketed as "field-proven" on Palestinians, exports to the rest of the world and threatens privacy and human rights everywhere.
Here are some examples 🧵⬇️
Some Israelis genuinely want peace and justice for Palestinians. There are very few of them, but they exist.
And they say it loud and clear: "we cannot stop this war from within Israel". Only overwhelming boycotts, divestments and sanctions will make Israel bend.
Israel has engaged in ethnic cleansing for decades. Sometimes it's the IDF, sometimes it's settlers.
This is the cause of the conflict. Violence by Hamas and others--as horrific as it is, like on Oct 7th--is a consequence, a symptom. Ethnic cleansing, from 1948 until now, is the cause.

There is no contradiction between 1) early Zionists being refugees who fled persecution, violence, & antisemitism, and 2) Zionism being a settler-colonial project.
What determines whether it's colonialism isn't what pushed settlers to migrate; it's their relationship to the land & to the indigenous population.
With all eyes on Gaza, Israeli authorities are fast-tracking the approval of new Jewish neighborhoods in the heart of East Jerusalem: 3000 residential units, perimeter fences, patrol routes, armored vehicles and security cameras with facial recognition.
Colonization.
Tal Mitnick, who was just released after being jailed for refusing to serve in the Israeli military, is telling the world: "I got to return to my family, but hundreds of Palestinians remain in Israeli prisons without charges"
So the plan is:
- Saudi and Gulf monarchies pay for Gaza reconstruction
- Israeli-Saudi normalization
- New Palestinian government that "ratchet down their criticisms of Israel"
Very much in line with what I'm hearing from Israelis. And of course completely delusional.

As often, we just need to listen to Israelis themselves to understand their true intents. This is Israel Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi, from Netanyahu's Likud party:
- Interviewer: you're saying we should encourage voluntary migration, that's the solution?
- Karhi: we should encourage voluntary migration, and we should compel them until they say they want it.
- Interviewer: how?
- Karhi: the war does what it does.
The Washington Post just released an in-depth investigation on Israel’s assault on the al-Shifa hospital.
The Post analyzed open-source visuals, satellite imagery and all of the publicly released IDF materials.
Highlights from the investigation:
The Washington Post examined Israeli claims about al-Shifa as well as the evidence Israel presented to the world after it took control of the hospital.
Israel claimed that:
- five hospital buildings were directly involved in Hamas activities;
- the buildings sat atop underground tunnels that were used by militants to direct rocket attacks and command fighters;
- that the tunnels could be accessed from inside hospital wards
2/3
The WashPost found:
1. No evidence of military use by Hamas of the rooms connected to the tunnels
2. No evidence the five hospital buildings identified by the IDF were connected to the tunnel network
3. No evidence the tunnels could be accessed from inside hospital wards
The Post concludes: “the evidence presented by the Israeli government falls short of showing that Hamas had been using the hospital as a command and control center”.

That's what nationalism does to people: the worst people on "our" side are still more important than anyone from the other side.
There are many reasons why Liberal Zionism is the enemy of a just peace in the Middle East . But a central one is that it always priorized the settler far-right over Palestinians. Even Rabin didn't stop the expansion of settlements
Liberal Zionists paved the way for the current Israeli government.

Don't ever believe anyone saying it's Jews vs Arabs
I'm so proud to see so many Jews show up for Palestine
I post about Palestine-Israel and write about Zionism at https://OneSmallDetail.blog
