things I didn't notice before stating work: during peak hours busy kl intersections get switched to a crossing guard. however for some reason they don't turn off the traffic lights so you get two conflicting signals.
didn't notice the traffic guy first time I drove and almost got rear-ended :ARU: -

never bothered back home cuz it seemed like a lot of work, but here they only required one theory class and 16 hours of practice lessons -

@nosleep it's a tradeoff because I am moving from "middle of nowhere, but can drive to the capital" to "small town with public transport, but far from big cities". the campus seems to have more stuff to do though, so hopefully it will be fun -

@not_benis better academics (I did my research on the profs), the fact I can actually intern and work part time there and a bit of herd mentality (3 of my closest friends here are going)

@sun not sure if helpful but last time friend's card had issues in sg, he just signed up for a wise acct and they immediately issued a virtual card. attached it to apple pay and paid without problems rest of the trip -

people here are too paranoid about scams. for example my local friends think I am insane for picking up unknown numbers, even though 99% of the time it's a legit call from delivery/bank/whatever.
few days ago a post went viral on social media where somebody claimed there is a new "scam" where people pretending to be water company shut off your tap manually, and hang a qr code with a "fake website" to pay your bills. so I tried scanning the qr code in the image and it leads to... the actual water company website. today the water company had to make a facebook post confirming that the qr code is indeed real...
