Gajim 1.5 comes with a significant performance boost. Pinned chats can be ordered via drag and drop, message corrections have been improved, and many bugs have been fixed.
#Gajim 1.5.1 arrived in #Debian testing (12, bookworm).
Unfortunately, backports for #Debian stable (11, bullseye) had to be reverted to 1.4.7, because dependency #GTK 3.24.30 cannot not be satisfied at the moment.
I've just merged the code for the last step (but the security audit) of the #Libervia#XMPP ⇔ #ActivityPub gateway, that is the events / #Mobilizon compatibility!
With that comes a new protoXEP to handle events with XMPP.
I'll publish a blog post to explain all that (probably not before a week), consider it alpha quality for now, I'll stabilize in coming months.
I'm relieved to have reached this step, this was a huge amount of work.
Thanks a lot to #NLnet / #NGI0 for making this possible!
@podverse one thing on the side of @matrix is that it can be a hub for other protocols too: for example, all of @liberachat is bridged and other #IRC servers could be too. Some quick reading makes it seem similar may be true for #XMPP.
These are the instructions to instant message (IM) a person like myself over the invisible internet (I2P) and using the open messaging protocol, XMPP. It works on all devices and desktops, including Mac, but not iOS (general tip: avoid apple).
STEP 1) Get I2PRouter (or i2pd)
----------------------------------------
- Visit https://geti2p.net/en/download and get 'i2prouter' for the device you intend to IM from (optionally get 'i2pd' instead, but I like to recommend i2prouter because it comes with some nice things like a torrent client. These instructions are thus for i2prouter and 'I2P for Android', although they *may* match very closely to i2pd).
- OPTIONAL BEST PRACTICE: You may want to verify the downloaded file by downloading the accompanying "sig" file into the same folder and using 'pgp4win' or the `gpg --verify-files <SIG_FILE>` command on your GNU+Linux.
I've been getting back into playing with #XMPP again, and I'm really impressed with how much better the new user flow has gotten. I helped a not-to-technical person join a server, and they were done and chatting at me before I knew my way around the ui.
#Prosody#trunk in August: - Session roles (see recent blog post) - Record StartTLS state so it can be shown in the shell (Direct TLS can be assumed when that state is absent from a TLS connection) - Support for sub-second precision timestamps - Removed support for obsolete XEP-0090 - Stanza API additions - Cleanup of mod_smacks session resumption code - Require Components to include sender address #xmpp#dev

silkeviciousHere is my second review for #volla#vollaphone22 after about 3 weeks of daily use as my main phone. I'm using with a 4G sim card and all seems ok: calls and sms are working great. I think that unfortunately the ConverseJS app is draining my mobile data, i think it downloads everytime anything at each login. Sometimes i have to logout/login even if i set to not suspend the app with UTtweak. The most annoying thing with this app is that i have to manually save each image in gallery to see it, and i can save videos just if sent uncrypted (with OMEMO can't save). I'm not sure if the fault is because of the web engine or what. Another thing i found is that the keepass app can't generate 2FA codes. Had to scan all the codes and save them in another app (2FA manager). Not optimal but it works. In holiday i tested PureMaps and OSMScoutServer for offline maps and it worked great! I found nice also the Weather app with rain radar included and the uRsses to read my fav news sites. About this, i'm missing the adblocker on the browser but the adblocker systemwide works really great! I tried to install #waydroid but somehow it stucks in "preparing installer" or something for some hours and doesn't do anything. Had a misadventure while on holiday: for some reasons a morning phone won't unlock neither with code nor with fingerprint...so i rebooted it. At start it asked the sim pin and despite it was correct it reported wrong 3 times so sim locked. Had to return home to unlock with PUK code (but i used an android phone just to be sure). Now all seems returned to normal. Yesterday i downloaded a stable channel update to fix wifi and video issue. Both issues seems solved but conversejs didn't work anymore. Also other js websites seems not working properly. RC channel seems not yet available so now i'm in devel channel. A bit unstable (got a random reboot) but at least xmpp works...
So...so far i would say a 6/10 recommended just if you're a power user.
A TL;DR recap (1st review included) Pros: -good HW quality and perfomances -battery last 2-3 days -replaceable battery -most android app have an equivalent UT app except those in Cons -no google BS -volla promptly fixed wifi and video issues
Cons: -missing proper #xmpp app. Waiting 20.04 release so i can install #dino or i could install #waydroid to install #blabberim -No contacts sync with cardDAV (just google or vcf) -Some issues with cardDAV sync (but maybe it's my server, i have to investigate more) -unable to generate 2FA with Keepass
I have been using the #fsf member #XMPP server basically since google talk abandoned Jabber. But that server hasn't been updated for year. My kids use hot-chili.eu their website talks about video calling but I think they may just be describing XMPP and not the features they support as I have never got it working for them. Is their a #Freedom respecting #gratis server that supports video calling you would recommend?
