Did anyone hear about bigtech investing in #nuclear energy to supposedly power 'ai'? here's a supposed article that sounds like it's copy-pasted straight from the nuclear lobby's press release (you can tell because they write "clean energy" as opposed to "toxic waste generating energy that poisons children and placed in bombs to damag the #genetics of people in parts of the world bankers want to harvest").

Amazon bought a nuclear-powered #datacenter in march and now they are investing $500 million in "small modular reactors". The nuclear lobby must be thrilled that everyone seems to be too distracted with the election to even talk about this. This news from amazon came a day after google announced it has big plans to go nuclear over the next decade or so.

in case anyone needed another reason to boycott m$, amaz, and goog....

The #TechBros are copying the #FossilFools playbook by pretending that nuclear is a solution to their emissions problem, knowing that #nuclear (even new fission) plants are years away, giving them permission to continue relying on #FossilFuels for ‘just a little bit longer’.

The only difference is the techbros are dressing up their fantasy in sci-fi language because that’s what they do.

Looks like Google is next to clamor for nuclear power in the "AI" energy consumptions arms race. This, since it bears repeating, is to power a technology that *everyone hates*, both because it's shit and because Google has used it to (among other things) technologically enable the Israeli genocide on Palestinians.

(And because this always also bears repeating, "AI tools" consume the amount of energy they consume precisely because they are not actually artificial intelligences.)

i'm on the fence about nuclear power.

on the one hand, it is a clean (relatively speaking) source of power, and all historical catastrophes were results of bureaucratic incompetence rather than technical limitations

on the other hand, nuclear technology goes hand-in-hand with nuclear weapons; bureaucratic incompetence is all but inevitable; and renewables exist
