Tor browser is pretty good, as it can disable dangerous formats to render, for example SVG.
The image renders firefox uses have improved and have undergone fuzz testing I believe.
I wonder if there's an option to disable image rendering... -

>Apple's system in lockdown mode stops all kinds of shenanigans. Phones are designed to be tracking devices. I feel better about my ability to avoid those pitfalls on an iPhone than I do in Google's ecosystem.
Lockdown mode stops 0% of apples shenanigans.
All proprietary stuff is a joke security wise and can and will get cracked if there is anyone who wants to do so.
You want a free software SIP client really, that you keep updated and SELinux'd, as good luck cracking that. -

Many networks and some people offer bouncer gratis out of the goodness of their heart, rather than malice.
irc dates from 1988 and they even brought the original machine back up for a couple days one time.
IRCv3 supports message caching, but nobody bothers with that, as everyone idles 24/7 anyway. -

Jim Salter (jimsalter@fosstodon.org)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Nov-2024 14:44:23 JST Jim Salter The FSF's got a lot of damn nerve, asking me for EXTRA money on top of my $140/yr associate membership right now.
Letting RMS just sashay his way as publicly as possible back into the lead role--with neither significant remorse expressed nor visible changes made--put this one directly in the "no, hell no, and in fact get out of my damn office" pile.
Are you listening, @fsf ?

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Thursday, 21-Nov-2024 18:35:46 JST 翠星石 @lightweight It seems that self-hosting is cheaper than any VPS for any substantial amount of CPUs or storage or RAM for periods more than a few months.
I reckon a cheap SBC, comparable to a 1CPU $5/month VPS is probably cheaper than such VPS too after 6 months. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Thursday, 21-Nov-2024 18:30:33 JST 翠星石 @izaya You cannot build dotnet from source.
You need to download mystery meat proprietary binaries from microsoft and then you can try compiling dotnet and hope it works (spoiler; it usually fails to compile even with the recommended binaries).
Ideally you could run the proprietary binaries only once and then have a self hosting free compiler (like what gcc did), but I don't think that's feasible to pull off due to C#. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Thursday, 21-Nov-2024 18:25:15 JST 翠星石 @m0xee @Hyolobrika @mangeurdenuage Bluetooth headphones do need software to work, otherwise they couldn't handle the bluetooth protocol, receive the digital audio packets and decode them into an analogue signal.
The spying software in question runs on the demon rectangles and does settings changes and also updates the software on the headphones (the software update functionality makes the headphones a computer and that computer is absolutely proprietary).
I like headphones that work (i.e. headphones free of proprietary software), thus I use analogue headphones. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Thursday, 21-Nov-2024 18:17:48 JST 翠星石 @sun The feds weren't afraid of Tornadocash, as it really just did a bit of obfuscation - they traced the transactions and worked out that developers were into money laundering and arrested them.
A large cash rewards is offered to anyone who can provide information how to trace Monero transactions, but nobody can do it.
The feds aren't trying to get rid of Monero (the developers are idiots and are using github, allowing for easy identification and takedown), as if they really try, its usage will only increase.
The feds are getting it blacklisted from most exchanges and manipulating the exchange rate mind you. -

You're better off reading manpages and the few programs that use such.
The GNU bash manual and related documentation are quite good and much better than videos really.
Yes, it is pointless to complain about how windows doesn't respect your freedom unless you are willing to do something about it.
The government takes orders from microsoft before the public. -
