So like as a digital artist what captivates me with painting is the stuff that's unique about paintings as physical objects, the stuff you "can't digitize". A big one to me is the way stroke direction creates 3D shapes on the canvas surface. Look at this Klee piece. Taken as a while it's almost cartoony. But look at the negative space, between the lines. He doesn't just paint it in. It's so complex. Tiny, directed brushstrokes. Every bit of space filled with rushing-water direction and intention
