Next to the Kamakura Buddha statue are a giant pair of sandals hanging on the wall. I was like "Oh, that's nice, in case the statue wants to get up and walk around" but then I got Google to translate the plaque and it turns out that's actually the idea, a group of children made the statue some sandals in hopes it would get up and take a walk around Japan. I hope that works out for them
"Please do not place money inside the medicinal sandals"
