What you're refering to as guix in your gentoo pc, is in fact, portage/guix, or as I've recently taken to calling it, portage plus guix. guix is not a system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning gentoo system made useful by the portage framework, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the portage system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of portage which is widely used today is often called a guix install, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the portage system, developed by the gentoo Project.
There really is a guix, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Portage is the base: the core framework of the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The base is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete environment. Portage is normally used in combination with the guix framework: the whole system is basically portage with guix added, or portage/guix. All the so-called guix installs are really installs of portage/guix!
