Fact is every country owns foreign currency for every other country because it helps keeps things more stable and lets them hedge. Demand and popularity have their own inertia, but we still have the global naval presence that helps facilitate trade and makes people want to keep us around. The world police thing is a funny meme but kind of true when it comes to the ocean and piracy and stuff.
