They aren't giving it away, they are incentivising you to buy their hardware and their paid-for software that you'd already be familiar with. If they didn't "give it away for free" those who only do simple editing for YouTube would just use iMovie, or Windows Movie maker — or whatever Microsoft gives you with Windows nowadays. When and if some of these people need something more advanced, they'd have to learn Premiere or Final Cut or whatever Avid does now — however when they already know how to use "free" Resolve, they might consider a different upgrade path. None of this happens out of the desire to do greater good for the mankind, it's just marketing.
