Astronomy Picture of the Day (apod) for 2024 April 22 features this spectacular pic of Mt. Etna blowing smoke rings into the sky under the watchful eye of a crescent Moon and a fiery backdrop caused by the morning Sun.

The edges of emitted smoke puffs are slowed down by the walls of the volcano. The rising gas in the middle imparts a circular motion along the edges which continues as the gas and dust rises above the volcano.
