You could communicate with the computer via one of the ports without even using a shell I reckon - too bad doing so has become extremely difficult, due to the replacement of serial and parallel ports with usb (which is meant to be serial, but you can't even do serial on it without a convertor card).
>the shell is only supposed to be used by powerusers making the average computer user dumber in general.
On windows, the available shells are terrible and also have intentionally braindead/crippled functionality, so I really wouldn't blame anyone who only ever used the original useless DOS shell or "cmd" or "PowerShell" to despise shells in general.
Meanwhile GNU bash is very nice to use and even normies realize how easy it is to use when you show them how to use it.
Most young people have issues understanding basic concepts such as directories, as they've only ever used "computers" from proprietary companies like google or apple, which hide the concept of a filesystem and only ever present a list of files to select and maybe offer limited filtering functionality, while also listing the files as stored on the mythical "cloud".
