- Embed this notice@fuggy The biggest part of the image problem is that people refuse to actually name the relevant software and write only "Linux", which is incredibly confusing, as that leads to people never realizing that Linux is only a kernel, a proprietary one at that.
Arch and Gentoo do actually have their own custom Linux patches.
Even normies can wrap their head around that statement that GNU was started in 1984 to produce a 100% libre software OS that wasn't proprietary malware and Linus released a kernel for GNU in 1991 as proprietary software (although it was freed in 1992, too bad it was made proprietary again in 1996).
