i should stop doing it but i still feel the need to point out when a search engine does not run its own index. it's like when people say they are going to protest chrome by making a reskin of chrome. or like deuvian where they just flip systemd off and otherwise rely entirely on upstream debian to do everything.

the thing about alternatives is they have to be able to stand on their own. it does not counteract abuse of power issues to have a dozen repeater stations that are 99.9% reliant on the abuser for daily decisions and maintenance.
