@Amikke@qoto.org There is a scale at which running the infrastructure purely on donations stops being feasible, not to mention the moderation problemI wholly disagree. No instance should be so large that maintenance upkeep or moderation becomes so untenable than profitability or income becomes necessary. The Fediverse is built around decentralization. If an instance is becoming so large that it requires income in order to operate or pay moderators then that instance is too big and should shard. That instance should offload users to other instances or actively encourage preexisting users to self-host for themselves and their friends.
