Sad! And, relatable.
In one regard, being weak and evil, is our fault. It is the reason why wisdom is a curse. For wisdom and effort on our part only makes things worse.
But, I am greatly comforted in remembering that Abraham did not earn all that special favor from God. In fact, that by any modern Christian standard, we would say that Abraham was a profound failure in his relationship to God.
God would tell him "Stay in the land I've given you!", but Abraham didn't trust God at all, and would flee to other countries, and even lost his wife to the local king's harem!
But, God had decided to make Abraham an example, of what it looks like when you are God's friend. And so, God didn't punish Abraham for any of these things, for being evil and weak, instead He always fixed the problems and turned the situations around to richly bless Abraham.
And, what is written? That by believing Jesus has redeemed us, we are blessed like Abraham was blessed. I have the blessing of Abraham, that I am no longer cursed by being evil and weak, but uplifted by the hands of my Heavenly Father. It is God's unrestricted loving devotion and faithfulness to us as His friends, That is the Gospel.
Which, is why I am always pushing people to talk to God, because I know it is not God's plan for them to suffer, and I know that our faults, our evilness, and our weakness, isn't enough to keep God from lifting us up and making our life good. It isn't about what you are doing, but about what Jesus has done, and what our Father will do for us!
