But the story I made up in my head to rationalize it is that Bluesky was originally developed to actually be implemented by Twitter. Nobody could have anticipated the sell to Elon Musk, which completely changed the future of Bluesky. But Bluesky is still trying to build the thing that would be acceptable to implement on Twitter.
Jack has stated multiple times that he urges Elon to consider decentralization on Twitter. It was clearly the goal. But it took so long for Bluesky to produce something, it is not exactly on the table anymore.
Nostr on the other hand, is not Mastodon. It uses private keys, like Bitcoin (another thing Jack loves). Gargron is very stubborn and has a strong political alignment, so it would not work. I'm not sure to what extent it was known that another side of fedi exists, and how much it would be worth salvaging. Nostr is an opportunity to build something fresh without any baggage.
I do feel some fear and frustration about having to take a step backwards before stepping forward, especially with election season now being a reality. I'm concerned that we will be "not ready" for it again, until the next 4 year cycle. So I'm racing to try to make it happen as fast as possible.
