@kj00 This is like my parents saying they are glad they ended up with an alcoholic instead of me self harming or having anorexia.

Self harm can feel like a way out or some relief. I hope this child doesn't do anything harmful or irreversible, but I have a feeling that is what they are excited about, given the current state of things.
