   1. At checkout, @CVSHealth@twitter.com customers thought they were donating a dollar to the American Diabetes Association (@AmDiabetesAssn@twitter.com).

   Actually, they were subsidizing CVS’ corporate sponsorship agreement with ADA

     6. A customer that tapped "Donation $1.00" on this screen likely believed that their choice meant the ADA would have an additional dollar it could use to support its mission. In fact, that dollar simply reduced CVS' obligation to the ADA

     5. Instead, the agreement allows CVS to offset its obligation to the ADA "through in-store fundraising." Each year CVS turns over customer donations. Then, at the end of the agreement, CVS pays "an amount equal to the difference between the total funds raised and $10M”

     4. @CVSHealth@twitter.com could have just paid the $10 million.

     Since CVS signed the agreement, the company has brought in $395 billion in revenue. $10 million represents 0.002% of CVS' revenue from June 2021 to September 2022. 

     But that’s not what they did

     3. People with serious medical conditions like diabetes require a lot of prescription medication and medical supplies

     These are lucrative customers for @cvspharmacy@twitter.com

     Associating with the ADA, which has a great reputation, makes it more likely they’ll shop at CVS

     2. In April 2021, @CVSHealth@twitter.com signed a sponsorship deal with the @AmDiabetesAssn@twitter.com.

     CVS received the right to use the ADA logos AND the ADA agreed to promote CVS on its website and elsewhere

     In return, CVS agreed to donate at least $10 million over 3 yrs
