I’m not worried about the zombie virus from The Last Of Us, I am already part cordycep (it is a very common ingredient in our soups)

In fact I associate cordyceps with ‘exams’ because many Chinese kids had to drink a bitter cordyceps and ginseng essence every morning we had exams

Honestly it tastes pretty good, I just never knew what it was. The clue was in the name I guess ‘insect grass’

I don’t think this is a ‘our food is weird’ thing as much as it is a ‘don’t you think it’s weird that other people think so much food is weird?’ thing and also a ‘so many artificial limitations in what breakfast and dessert can be’

@brass75 ha, entire tv shows in the west disagree. I remember watching people eat things on fear factor that I have for brekkie and being confused

@skinnylatte food is not weird. It is either to your taste or not. There are lots of foods that I wouldn't eat because they are not to my taste but none of it is weird.

@skinnylatte I remember learning about it in Mycology and then the first time I saw it as a cultural reference was watching 대장금 (Jewel in the Palace) with my partner. IIRC, they described it in that show as a poor caterpillar that starts its life as a bug and ends it as a mushroom.

@brass75 somehow they are the loudest about food they can’t stand.
I once posted that Chinese people find raw iceberg lettuce absolutely disgusting and vile and I got so many Europeans and Americans getting into ‘well but you guys eat weird things!!!’ (Yes, raw lettuce is super duper vile and weird to most of us!

@skinnylatte there are things that are culturally not to a group's taste. Like insects tend to be not to westerners' taste but are common in other parts of the world. People think that things that are outside of their culture are weird. People are wrong.
