Thanks, @downey, for bringing this #FrameworkLaptop scandal to my attention. I read the whole thread in its entirety. I have since seen others' post that indicate they don't know how bad the situation is. Other TL;DR summaries are now making the rounds, but the big problem is Vaxry of Hyprland was given a grant by #Framework recently, but the receipts exist that show in past the Hyprland Discord & Vaxry himself encouraged anti-trans rhetoric in an extremely unprofessional sexually explicit way…

…BTW, NB: Vaxry was ≈ 19 years old when he made/encouraged the toxic statements & is today only ≈ 22 years old.

I also held some problematic views at Vaxry's age;(I was, e.g., way into Ayn Rand, whom I now find risible).

Young folks have throughout history made woppers of mistakes at ages 17-25. The situation *is* different & worse if, say, 55-70 year old person says these things.

Rewarding the behavior as #Framework did won't improve it, but ∃ room for them to help Vaxry in a productive way.

@bkuhn Yeah, it's why to me vaxry is best described as edgy and luckily Hyprland can typically be ignored.

Pretty different case from say, DHH.

@lanodan I didn't mention DHH because it was less clear whether DHH got a grant personally from Framework as Vaxy did or if DHH was merely promoted once by Framework.

I.e., I read the whole thread and it was still unclear what money if any DHH got from Framework.

It relates to another problem: Framework is a privately held for-profit entity & therefore they have absolutely no requirements to disclose where that huge pile of VC cash is really going.

@lanodan it seemed so but it was not completely clear. The announcements for the two were different.

Again, transparency should be demanded? Why doesn't Framework post a clear list of grantees and amounts and frankly have a competitive RfP process for grants?

@bkuhn Yeah more transparency on that would be nice, even if they don't have to legally.
