There is a cat in my apartment. He's been here for three hours now. He went under my bed as soon as my brother opened the door of his crate, and I keep forgetting that he's here.
I guess he'll decide to come out and say hello eventually. He probably won't hide under my bed for an entire week.

@thedeadparrot he hid for a few hours the first time I looked after him at my brother's place too. I'm not too worried.
I hope he discovers the litter box & the food & water at some point 🤞
My apartment's quite small so I think he'll figure it out

@lookitmychicken it is extremely common for cats to hide for a few hours after ending up in a new place! Even some of my most confident fosters did that for a bit.

He came out a couple of times in the middle of the night, cried a little bit, then went back under the bed.
I'm sure he'll be fine but I'm feeling sad for him. I hope he gets more comfortable soon.

@yuuana oh shit you've caught me. Seungmin is indeed under my bed. It's a bit annoying how his crying in the middle of the night woke me up, but he's cute so I'll forgive hinm.

the cat has been under the bed for 24 hours now. I don't think he's used the litter box, or eaten anything, or had anything to drink.
should I attempt to make him come out, and carry him around the apartment to show him where things are?
it seems like this is too long for a cat to go without drinking water or peeing, anyway

I put the food and water under the bed, and hung out on the floor next to the bed for a bit. After a while, he had some food. No water yet though. He also went out from under the bed and went into my wardrobe for a bit, then retreated under the bed again.
I don't think he's pooped or peed anywhere yet. Can't smell anything, anyway.
I don't really want to put the litterbox in my bedroom area, but I guess it's better than having him poop in the wardrobe or under the bed?? Hmm, maybe I can put it there for a bit, so at least he knows it's here. Then I can try gradually moving it closer to the bathroom.

@lookitmychicken good luck with the kitty! id def recommend moving the litter to the room he's using as his safe place. much better than finding an accident later and you'll also have a better idea of if he's coming out since you'll see the litter moved around (and hopefully have poop or pee)

He has emerged.
He used the litter box and he had a churu and now he complains every time I turn the light out.
It is 1.30 am. I'd really like to turn the light out.

@JillsJoy we have been friends before! But it was 2 or 3 years ago and I think he forgot me. Also he hadn't been to my apartment before now.
