   Update - I’m overwhelmed with gratitude at the response to this post. I’ve passed on the great suggestions, encouragement and tips - she’s eternally grateful.
   Having decided on the community college-transfer to university route, plus living in a competitive area, she was panicking about job experience. Thank you 😊, you’re all wonderful!

   Putting this out there, hoping the power of Mastodon works!

   My daughter just started community college and is looking for an entry level research lab role (she wants to do biochemistry). I don’t have any connections in this area but if anyone has any tips on how to get in, we’d be grateful for your help. Location: #SFBayArea
   Just a few extra words about my daughter. Without going into detail, she’s very passionate about finding cures for illnesses, a cause close to her heart ❤️

     A year ago I posted this asking for help to find my community college daughter an internship and I got the best responses from so many people here!
Well I wanted to say thanks to #Mastodon and the people here again, let you know what happened and give back by sharing some tips.
My daughter ended up getting many offers - she did two internships at Stanford and ended up turning some down!
So here are the tips:
- Do the research on the labs and write directly to them, sharing your story
- Make sure your story is personal- my daughter talked authentically about why she wanted to join their lab specifically and what inspired her
- Don’t give up, keep following every lead and if they don’t take you first time, they’ll be impressed if you keep trying! My daughter got in on her second attempt in one case.
