   Like every time when a horde of people head over to some other platform, I was tempted as well. But then I thought about about what I actually want out of social media.

   I want connections. Conversations. And I have that here.

     I get that people want Mastodon to grow because it's a really nice alternative to X.

     But I want to probe some underlying assumptions: why is growth a good thing? Why do we all feel the need for 'reach'?

     I'm not suggesting we should pull up any drawbridges, not at all.

     Just interrogating some of the unquestioned assumptions about what constitutes as a positive in the context of Social Media.

     I remember my time on Facebook and Twitter mainly as a numbers game, chasing followers and replies for their own sake. It was soul-sucking, stressful and depressing.

     Personally I´m having an infinitely better time over here.

     This is only to say that.... I appreciate you guys. You make my life funnier, more passionate, more creative and informative.

     We could do with some more diversity, for sure.
