   I knew a guy making smart Linux-based land mines in South Africa back around 2005-ish. He said an innocent person was killed by a leftover land mine from conflicts about every 15 mins. His could be remotely deactivated.

     The only landmines that are even vaguely close to moral are made with explosives that reliably chemically degrade all on their own over the course of a few years, rendering them inert.
