The Sun today emitted an X9.0 solar flare in our direction.
This follows the X7.1 flare and CME on Oct 1 from the same active region, which will cause enhanced auroras tonight and tomorrow.
This is the strongest flare of the current 11 year solar cycle. The flare is stronger than the X8.7 flare of May 14 which was emitted sideways shortly after the series of X-class flares that created bright auroras on May 10.
Awaiting CME analysis.
