   It has been the recordings of The Hilliard Ensemble that first brought to me the music of Arvo Pärt. There are countless renditions esp of his chorale work, but none captures the careful directness of the voices this choir. Most others have a sponginess and indecision, almost a fearfulness, where knowing of what one is doing and the willingness to commit is essential to keep the bow of tension in and bring out the core of these musical pieces.
