   I've ended relationships with many people in my life over incompatible differences in politics.

   I don't take politics lightly because politics, more often than not, entwines with systems of violence and abuse.

   My politics are guided by opposition to systems of violence and abuse, and these things are VERY personal for me, being someone whose life has been restricted and traumatized by systems of violence and abuse.

   I don't take people's support of or neutrality toward those systems lightly.

     I was bullied, beaten, and scarred by these systems from my youngest years onward. It's part of the unfortunate landscape of being trans/queer in this culture.

     I carry a lot of trauma with me. I always will.

     If I find myself on the opposite side of a political difference where you are supporting a violent system and I'm opposing it, our relationship is unlikely to survive.

     I start to pull back when I realize this.

     I grow quiet.

     I create distance.

     And our relationship fades.

     A part of this response is born from the experience of having ended my relationship with a friend with whom I shared a friendship as deep as any romantic relationship but completely platonic in nature.
