If the nazis are howling that you're a bad person, or you went too far, or trying to make the argument that you're not playing fair - you're winning. This is their whole schtick. "You better not make us angry or we're gonna rage/go nuts/do violence" and every single person in history who has said "okay we better listen to them" has lost.
If the nazis are mad that you're throwing punches, you're winning. In politics and in the streets.

Now, you can lead that way after the fact, but that's simply not how you win elections. You win elections in America by fighting, dirty if you have to; and that's probably especially important when the other guy is an actual fucking nazi who will lie his ass off, attack anything, anyone to rile up his base, and doesn't know or care what's out of bounds.
You're not gonna beat this guy because he goes too far. That's what he's about. You needa throw bows. Speaking purely tactically re: US history

Also, let's not be childish right? There's a reason I used the word "campaign." I know Harris is not writing all these updates herself personally, and Biden didn't have to do so either. But one campaign understands it's important to push back and that every time Trump does a thing that's an opportunity to pick a fight and make the argument; and the other one didn't realize that or do that very often.
It matters. There's a science to winning elections. Even if elections aren't revolutions.

I dunno what it is about Very Serious People in American politics assuming that the correct approach to a fascist demagogue is to stay right above it and not embarrass the country somehow by addressing reality because it's too gauche; but this is not how history works, particularly American political history.
American politics *IS* mud-wrestling with a pig; always has been. You don't win elections here by "appealing to the better angels of our nature." That's the history.

(and before someone gets all edgy in the replies, please be aware that I know fascism is still winning regardless of who loses the election, and that you can't beat it at the ballot box. That's not the point, the point is that I can both analyze fascism, and whether or not a political election campaign has anyone behind the wheel. It's not my theory that electing Harris stops fascism; but if folks don't want to see Trump in the WH, the fact that she fights him a lot is a good sign.)

I honestly don't care that Harris's clapbacks at Dowmarket Mussolini are snarky or entertaining, that's really not the point is it?
The point is that someone is clearly behind the wheel and trying to beat Trump, which I'm sorry to say has simply not been a reality until now.
I'm not here to pretend a ballot stops fascism, but if you want to beat this guy in an election it helps to demonstrate you're fighting and bring awareness to what a toad he is. Daily if possible

Whatever you feel about Biden as a person or his historic ability as a politician, the past couple of weeks have made it abundantly clear that his campaign was on autopilot.
I don't need Harris to be sassy (although it doesn't bother me at all that she is) - I need the Harris campaign to be aware of what's going on, responding to it, and making the argument. Constantly.
This is just basic political/campaign strategy 101. It's not about my feelings; it's how you win elections.
