You can self-verify ownership of your website on your Mastodon profile using the "rel=me" HTML code found at Edit Profile > Verification, as described in the recent post at https://mstdn.social/@feditips/108714877848316982
However, if your website contains more than one link to the same Mastodon account, these multiple links can confuse the verification process. (For example, if you have a link to your Masto account in your page's header and also in the page's body.)
If the verification doesn't work, try removing all of your site's links to your account except one with "rel=me" in it.
After the verification has happened, you can put the site back how it was, as the verification only happens at the moment you press "Save changes" on your Mastodon profile settings.

  If you own a website and a Fediverse account, there are three ways to prove you're the owner of both... ▸ Easiest: Link to your Fedi account from the front page of your website, AND link to your website from your Fedi profile. ▸ Slightly trickier: If you are using Mastodon, go to Edit Profile > Verification, copy and paste the code into your website's page code, add your website address to your profile metadata, and click "Save Changes". Your website link will then appear green in your profile, and you'll have a link to your profile from your website. ▸ Difficult but coolest: Set up your own Fediverse server using a subdomain of your website. For example, the European Union's server is at https://social.network.europa.eu and their website is at https://europa.eu If your website is well-known, these options will also (in effect) prove your identity on the Fediverse.   WARNING: :mastodon: account verification process is very very weak, I just "verified" @tootbot with an SQL update on my instance.
  Verification should be done directly by the client when displaying the account detail.

  @Gargron @cquest @feditips @tootbot is the account verification working on mastodon.social? I putted the snippet in my website, but the green check not appears.
  I've another account in another server, and adding the snippet for this other account, the green checks appear in a few minutes in the other server.

  @feditips Any idea why verification isn't working on my account? I literally pulled down the entire site except the link I copied from Mastodon profile editor and it's still not working?
