   "turn the other cheek" is one of those things I keep coming back to. The point is for you to not be quick to anger. You are not supposed to eschew anger because a) you will not use righteous anger and b) some people only respond to anger.
   
   So if you simply don't let the first insult make a reaction, you know when the person continues, it wasn't a mistake.

     Don't react to anger with anger is the point.

     If they can make you mad, that is how they will control you.

     That is a hard won lesson I am quick to share.

     @magicalthinking @sapphire yes, I think people tend to read too much into it, like "don't get angry" - which is explicitly denied. You *should* have righteous anger.
     
     If someone is making you angry with evil behavior you should be angry.

     Turn the other cheek was nothing like it has been interpreted. The entire point was to turn the cheek to be hit which put you as an equal to the Roman officer striking. It was not meek, it was a challenge.
