I just love when #Element has an update (which it has every couple hours), and when you click the button to refresh all you're left with is a white page and an error in the #Javascript console. #Matrix

tyil (tyil@fedi.tyil.nl)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jul-2024 20:20:35 JST tyil @darth@silversword.online I have been hoping that for a very long time now. They don't seem to care much for actually catering to end-users though, performance is still pathetic with resource usage still being insane. Features that are being focussed seem to be more "look what I can do with this massive blob of javascript" rather than actually providing something of use for their users.
These days I highly encourage people to check out #XMPP instead.翠星石 likes this. -

tyil (tyil@fedi.tyil.nl)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jul-2024 20:20:38 JST tyil @darth@silversword.online That's very fair. I generally prefer native applications too, but last time I looked at one for #Matrix they all seemed lacking. Matrix having only one serious server and client implementation is a bad sign, in my opinion, it shows it is incredibly complicated to implement. which is a very bad sign for longevity. If you want to have support for all the features, you are limited to just whatever #Element is puking into their repositories right now, which is a for-profit company in constant search of more investment.

Darth ŠČ! ✞ (darth@silversword.online)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jul-2024 20:20:39 JST Darth ŠČ! ✞ @tyil the mental health part I agree 100% with you. It’s just that I prefer native software and not “web apps” and that’s why I am testing Nheko.

tyil (tyil@fedi.tyil.nl)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jul-2024 20:20:42 JST tyil @darth@silversword.online I'm not interested in caving in to terrible dev decisions, I'll just be using #Matrix less. It's probably better for my mental health to be less connected anyway.

Darth ŠČ! ✞ (darth@silversword.online)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jul-2024 20:20:43 JST Darth ŠČ! ✞ @tyil this is probably not helpful at all but I use Flatpak Element on Debian and I am checking out Nheko. I am also on FF ESR.

tyil (tyil@fedi.tyil.nl)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jul-2024 20:20:44 JST tyil It turns out this time its not even a bug, it is intended behaviour! #Element apparently simply doesn't support #Firefox ESR, which is what I use on #Debian, so I guess I just won't use #Matrix on my laptop anymore.
One of the devs argues they cannot support a browser release that is one year old. Why are modern developers so scared of stable software? Why does everything need to be new and changed? It's so dumb... -

Unlike every single chat cr...app I've seen, you can join a XMPP chat with a decent client like pidgin over tor and it just works.
