You're allowed to want what's best for your people and have a black friend, and I think it's kind of retarded to make THAT a point of contention. You should also make an effort to not support things which hate you. I don't think those are mutually exclusive ideas, and there is overlap between ideals and reality.

Meanwhile people, get angry and friends burn bridges during the spiral over something that should be mended in time but won't because of stubbornness and ego.

     my point is that the spiral only applies if you aren't a pre approved member of the group. it's like claiming that anime is the best filter. It really isn't. It's a fine filter for keeping people off poast who don't belong on poast and nothing else.

     Instances of sincere and legitimate purity are praiseworthy, and ought to receive support and even protection when necessary.
     Beyond a certain point, when the pursuit of an ideal becomes so cut off from its root that it ends up destroying itself — that’s the level where it needs to be reigned in, and re-anchored to meet the needs of practical necessity that have arisen.
     It’s not *crystal clear*, but I think it’s clear enough to make it work.

     than I did even a year or two back. Everybody I run into kind of recognized that you have to defend yourself even if it means agreeing with the previously 'untouchables' on this point. But most of them will add the caveat that they just want things to return to normal, by which they mean post-racial rather than racially obsessed. It's hard if not impossible to put that horse back in the glue jar.
