I've never been a fan of hair hair testing. Using an external surface seems problematic. While most positives will be true, you could have false positives due to environmental conditions.
This is much less likely with piss tests. The issues there are that they're typically testing for metabolites, and non-illicit substances may produce false positives, but that's easier to determine because the person typically has to have ingested something and a significant amount.... where'd they know it.

Plus, it really doesn't take a lot of cocaine to get high if you're a non-user. A few milligrams will have a caffeine like effect.

Kid would have to rub their hair on the, I don't know, kitchen table? That unlikely scenario would bother me.
Frickin' snow storm blew through the Rick Ita residence.

Even if that does end up being the case, it still only reflects slightly less terribly on the Rekietas.

Yes, and the fact that no urinalyses or blood work is mentioned at all tells me that the kids weren't regularly being "dosed" because you know the state would have immediately taken at least the first because of its higher reliability. And the fact that it was only one child that tested positive makes me question the test itself. I'd at least retest.

Or take multiple samples from around the head. Ingestion should be consistent. Contact ... probably not.

And it is in Nick's interest to have that done, but not the state's. They got the result they want. I'll stan for Nick on at least that part of government action.

I never trust the government, especially where there's a potential political angle. This just sounds like some shit crooked DA throws out to legally defame the defendant and taint the jury pool.

Nick has no reason not to have a third party test done if what he alleges is true, and for all we know they might be arranging it. He didn't say he wouldn't.

Why would it be a crime to take copies of publicly available records out of the courthouse? If they're not publicly available, e.g. under seal, I get that. But no one other than authorize parties should see them.

The CPS reports wouldn't be a public document, correct? That's where the hair info came from, not the police report.

So from what I've learned today, the document is available at the courthouse, it's just not available online. It may or may not have been a crime to surreptitiously take that information out of the courthouse.

I trust CPS less than I trust a nigger to watch my bicycle.

Not my area of expertise. I wouldn't have thought them public at all because minors.

Likely the case. Didn't even think about that. I don't do family law, so I never deal with kids.

I don't know, but if they're only available in the courthouse and not online for some reason maybe there are different rules? I don't see why it would be illegal if any member of the public can view them, but I'm not well-versed on how this stuff works.

Online access for state trial courts is often a county by county issue, at least it is here in California. Some counties make documents publicly available, other only grants document access to parties and counsel, though anyone can typically view the docket, including filing history, and others don't have any ePortal. eFiling is similarly all over the place at the trial level.

I'm glad I'm not a lawyer, it sounds like a job where you're irritated by government bureaucracy all day.

Don't get me started. Would you like to hear about the captcha most countries use for their systems and how I have to go through 15 or more to log in unless I spoof my user agent to Windows 10? That's just the beginning. Fucking retards. 😒

I'll put this way... Despite all the jokes and what you see in media, there are some really honest, conscientious lawyers out there who really care. Unfortunately, and like in many industries, the system is designed to promote narcissists and sociopaths.

If lawyers didn't get paid as much as they do it sounds like they'd be committing more terrorism.
