>what's the legal age to get behind a keyboard
Any age alone is good as long as:
-No internet connection
-No proprietary software
>what's the legal age to get behind a keyboard connected to the internet
You shouldn't have unrestricted access to the internet and be alone surfing until 25yo.
Parents should not let their kids browser the web without being next to them, the same way you don't let your kid to the library alone, or in a library that isn't filtered by common sense.

@idiot @coolboymew Many mistakes were made.
Proprietary computing being the first.

@mangeurdenuage @coolboymew @idiot remember when first iPhone was supposed to be more or less free and apps were actually web-based instead of proprietary api garbage?

@mangeurdenuage @coolboymew @idiot yeah but remember all the drawbacks on native applications? The memory leaks, the lack of OS sandboxing, the shit compatibility, the the lack of updates and mess of configuration just to get shit to work.

@hj @coolboymew @idiot When you think about it Mobile phone just accelerated by 10000% webshit as the "diversity" of OS just multiplied and proprietary companies just didn't want to invest more money into support and instead just jumped on google chrome adding more and more garbage functions and putting most the still existing technical debt on google making it the new IE.

yeah, right. It's like chrome is the "bad guy" firefox is the "puppet opposition" "good guy", and safari is a vegetable in a wheelchair.

@mangeurdenuage @hj @coolboymew The only possible bright side is that iOS is singlehandedly keeping browser frameworks a triopoly instead of a might-as-well-be-a-monopoly duopoly.

i hope you like using windows or wine because that's what we had back then.

@hj @coolboymew @idiot I'd rather have that than what we have today. Same issue if not worse as it makes invisible to the user that they are downloading and executing software, basically removing the consent approach.

not really, i don't need to mess with WINE and its regedit just to order a pizza. I don't need to worry about my RealPlayer being outdated and not working with youtube anymore. I don't have to update to Windows 12 just because my bank decided they'll start using API that's not in Windows 7 and disallow older apps from working. I don't have to live with constant nagging to buy full version and built-in outdated ads because adblocking and hacking native apps is a bit difficult.

>should be usable in with links and nothing more
yes, but what you're proposing the "let's go back to old days" is "You must install Oracle BankConnect Pro (costs $150, and free version doesn't support your bank, assuming there is a free version at all) on your computer to manage your bank account and it only works on Windows XP and hasn't been yet updated or ported to Vista and currently doesn't work on WINE either"

The technical debt is still there tho.
You still load/install and execute a non native player/software in your OS, even tho you not only have a media player on your OS (most likely vlc) but there's already one in the web browser.
> just because my bank decided they'll start using API that's not in Windows 7
The technical debt is still there tho.
You don't need all the JS they require for the functions they have. Any website, especially banks, should be usable in with links and nothing more.

Never said that. I'm just saying you don't need a SaturnV rocket to display text and images.

@mangeurdenuage @coolboymew @idiot one thing i agree is that you don't need a rocket to render text and graphics. The first point is - be it webshit or overbloated C++ MFC application, or highly overengineered flash adobe air application, people will always gravitate to shit solution because "wow, technology" and it appeals to the masses and thus becomes the norm.
Second point - of all the other alternatives of present day and days gone by - webshit easily the least shit one.
