Russia. So near and yet so far - metaphorically and politically. The fort to the right is Russia, to the left of the river Estonia. Narva 🇪🇪

*Were* a Helsinki - Tallinn rail tunnel ever built, where would the line enter Tallinn? The two arrows appear the most obvious.
Western one: where is the tunnel portal? But no reversal in Ülemiste
Eastern one: easy to find a place for the portal, but then reverse trains in Ülemiste. So then why not make Balti Jaam the Rail Baltica station instead?
X marks Ülemiste
Do you know @JiMakinen ?

Jon Worth (jon@gruene.social)'s status on Thursday, 30-May-2024 01:25:03 JST Jon Worth Super easy crossing on Tallink MyStar. It’s a big modern ship, but less bling than Viking Glory. And it’s smooth and quite fast.
Now onwards by bike to the stone laying at Ülemiste.

Jon Worth (jon@gruene.social)'s status on Thursday, 30-May-2024 01:25:04 JST Jon Worth So about today…
I’m going to the ceremony for the beginning of the building of the Rail Baltica station at Ülemiste (Tallinn) first
But then I have some time. And a spare Interrail day. So I might go to Narva (border to Russia), although I’m of course not going to cross! And probably also not fly the drone 🙂
