A thing that's puzzled me for ages is why satellite tv requires a fairly large dish on the side of your house when your phone's satellite connection doesn't need anything like that.

Serena 🏳️🌈 (serenatori@dragonscave.space)'s status on Sunday, 05-May-2024 18:19:07 JST Serena 🏳️🌈 @KaraLG84 well, most phones aren’t sat phones. those phones that are full sat phones, cost a stack to run, don’t have super fantastic quality, and can’t do half of what standard mobile phones can do. sat phones are cool, and handy in particular places in the world like out at sea, but for the most part, they aren’t good enough for your day to day use. also, the bandwidth available to them is probably way way lower than what’s available to your tv for a tv streme. so that’s why the dish is needed, to get that kind of bandwidth.
