@mima Based on what I was told back in the 80s and 90s.
* Brownout = daytime power cut. The idea was, we can still see each other, and inside homes, it appears to be “brownish”.
* Blackout = nighttime power cut.
Officially, electric services in the Philippines actually follow the same terminologies and meanings as the rest of the world.
* Brownout = low voltage due to high demand. “Mahanda sa mga brownout sa Mayo dahil tataas nanaman ang demand.”
* Blackout = a huge area lost power supply. = “Blackout sa buong Laguna.”
* Power interruption = a specific area lost power supply. = “Brownout sa mga Barangay ng Jose at Maria.”
So, yeah, it's weird how the public use “brownout” and “blackout” differently than the official definitions.
