   I wonder why animals don't want to eat mouldy meat and cheese, it's a mystery.

     @feld Not just meat too. I’ve had unopened cheese from the store get moldy after a few days in the fridge and just today I saw a moldy package of cheese at the store on the shelf.

     This is a genuine warning to people: I've probably fed 25 pounds of chicken a week for the last 14 years. This is human grade chicken you buy at grocery stores, but I am buying the bulk 10 pound bags or 40 pound cases the grocery store sometimes use to package in-house on the styrofoam trays.
     
     If the "best by" date is under 5 days away, you should not eat it, it is already going bad. Buy what you need with the freshest date possible and freeze it if you will not use it immediately
