     @shibao well I just regged it there :) now to figure out if I can actually get oracle to approve a free vps for me or if I'll have to go beg for shared hosting somewhere else

     @lewdthewides @shibao Yep, local credit union and debit card at the time, I believe. Have a new card now in any case so I'm going to try using that and if that doesn't work then I'm in real trouble.

     however it sounds like you're mainly wanting a static site initially, I'd highly recommend just using github or gitlab pages to have it hosted, you don't have to worry about any of the infrastructure and it's completely free, unless that's something you're explicitly wanting to learn. you can still set up nginx for your xmpp server and whatnot else if you'd like, but for static sites and blogs I'd not let getting access to a VPS stop you from getting a page up on the internet
