Trash that I want.
I can explain what you’re looking at but I warn you that it’s going to get very nerdy.

Polychrome :blabcat: (polychrome@poly.cybre.city)'s status on Friday, 09-Feb-2024 05:51:17 JST Polychrome :blabcat: @SweetAmelia *deep breath* okay! So, these are anniversary toys from the Super Sentai TV series. If you're not familiar, Super Sentai is the original Japanese TV series that Power Rangers was (very loosely) adapted from in the west.
The 35th and 45th seasons of Super Sentai were special anniversary seasons. In one space pirates collected Ranger Keys (like treasure keys) which gave them powers of rangers from previous seasons and in the other robots collected Ranger Gears that did the same thing.
Both of these were just an excuse to get kids and fans to buy a whole bunch of collectible toys but each key/gear did trigger a unique sound effect.
And then there's Akibaranger! A Sentai parody from the same studio that produces the official series. It's about 3 nerds who become an unofficial Sentai team to defend Akihabara from evil! Except none of it is real and it's all in their heads. It pokes fun at the show, the tropes, the fans, and the creators behind it all. It became so beloved that there's a running gag where people keep asking the studio to make Akibaranger part of the official line-up.
2023 was the 10th anniversary of Akibaranger and they released this kit... which for the first time lets you get *fully functional* ranger keys and gears for Akibaranger just like the official teams. These will work with the official 35th/45th season toys provided you have the latest updated versions.
It's all very silly and convolutedly meta and I'm here for that. -
