I have started to read the Gospel of Matthew and some of the things he said strike me as really impractical. That included.
Sorry, I had to say it.
(I bet I'm gonna get burned at the stake for this post lol)

@zemichi @p @Moon @harblinger @Hyolobrika The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that love towards yourself is a fundamental principle of morality, you are called to love your neighbors as yourself, you can't help your enemies to do evil things against you. In fact, since your life is a gift from God that you must cherish and protect, even killing your enemies in self-defense is not a sin if they leave you no other choice.
As Christians we ideally want to always promote charity and love, but since protestants are so confused about these things and atheists twist these doctrines in an attempt to make Christianity look irrational and harmful, it's a defense of our faith to establish these boundaries.

@Hyolobrika @p @Moon @harblinger That's why we should seek divine wisdom from the tradition of the Catholic Church instead of getting lost trying to figure out spiritual life by ourselves. Christian love and charity are divine gifts with much deeper meanings than the shallow literal interpretations of these words in a wordly sense, they are perfectly logical and shouldn't result in Christians giving evil people the means or opportunity to hurt them. Thank you friend.

Loving thy enemies has to do with doing something that is easy vs something that is hard.
Sinners can do good things because it's expected of everyone to do "good things" it doesn't mean anything.
Loving thy enemies means something that you have a natural impulse to resist doing. If an enemy (or even a random stranger you don't know) really needed help would you help? Most people would say no but helping someone when they need it the most could be a life changing event for them.
A common retort would be they don't deserve it. Sure, but Jesus died to save a lot of people who don't deserve it and hated Him. :back_from_gab:
